There are many factors to consider in your search for the perfect dog and the right dog breeder. However, before you even consider looking for a dog or a breeder there are certain things you must first be aware of.

Owning a dog is not as simple as going out an getting a dog. Well, it could be, but you probably wouldn’t be too happy with the outcome. Sure you may stumble upon the perfect dog, but it may be difficult if you are not fully prepared for all the responsibilities that come with owning a dog.

The first thing you need to figure out is why do you really want a dog. People decide they want a dog for a variety of reasons…

• some people get a dog for companionship or because they are just lonely
• some people have always wanted a dog but did not have the chance to own one before
• perhaps you just want to add some life to your household

The reason why you want a dog does not really matter. What is important is that you are sure that you are getting a dog for the right reasons and not just on a whim. Dogs require a commitment of time and attention. You have to be willing to adjust your life to include your dog and not the other way around. Accepting that you need to be prepared to be selfless for your dog is probably the most important consideration you have to make. If you are not willing to give your dog the time and attention that she needs then you are better off not owning a pet.

If you are truly sure that you are ready to commit to a dog for its entire life then you are ready to start considering the other factors to fully prepare to bring a dog into your life.
