Buying the Best Collar For Your Dog

Your new puppy is one of the most important investments that you will ever make. You want them to be taken care of properly and with the most ease. There is a lot of things to consider when you are shopping for the appropriate collar. It all depends on the size of your dog. You will even need to consider whether or not your dog is the aggressive type or is he a smaller breed.

Then of course there are different types of collars that you will need to consider. There are chokers, nylon, braided and even electric collars that you would have to consider. For a much more comfortable pooch, you may even want to consider a harness.

These are really a good option for bigger dogs. Regular buckle collars are ideal for the smaller breeds such as poodles. These are basic and made of nylon. They have a metal buckle to keep it closed. Some are made of leather and may be a little more pricey. They are adjustable and may cause irritation if they are too tight. There is one that is some what similar and that would be the quick release collar. This one is more recommended and even a little cheaper. These types of collars are made for smaller dogs that are never put on a leash or with very little tension on the leash. They are also made out of nylon and the buckle is plastic. Some of these collars you must be very careful with as it can get snagged on something that can ultimately choke your dog to death. Be mindful of the type of collar that you are using so that you know whether or not it is the right one for your dog.

Then there are the slip collars. Many of them are considered choke collars and can be made out of chain links. They are also made out of nylon, they may be braided, leather and even cotton. Both ends consist of O rings that you loop through the other one. The tighter that your dog pulls, the more pressure you have on your dog’s neck. However, if you have the leash hooked on the dead ring (the one that is hanging), the collar will not tighten on your dog. Is your dog a show dog? If so the slip collar would be your best bet. These are basically so that you can show a well trained dog.

These collars made of nylon, leather and even cotton. Some are even made of metal chains and they are not like the regular choke chains. There is a type of collar called a prong collar for training big dogs. They pinch to correct a dog. They also say that these are really better then the regular choke collar. These particular type collars are perfect for dogs who like to pull while you are walking him. It is recommended to never use this on a puppy.

The safest and most comfortable would definitely be a head halter. These are dog with a collarlike halters for horses. It sits comfortably on the edge of his nose and right below the eyes. It is specifically used for training purposes because it has ultimate control of the head of the dog. These are nothing like a muzzle. The dog is able to drink, eat, bark and bite. These are ideally used for trained dogs who will walk along side of his master.

There are also remote controlled collars that are used to shock while training. Whenever your dog is being disobedient the
strength of the shock will intensify. These are usually used for hard to control dogs that you are training. They are not
recommended for everyday use. If you do not use this device correctly, you can hurt your dog.

There is a right way to use it. It is highly recommended that you use the collar with a professional advice. If not properly used your dog can lose his confidence and their will to do anything. It can lessen their moral and even harm them as well. This is the best and more efficient way to train. Just always use precautions.

Of all of the collars that are available out there, there is always the best one for your pet. Whether or not it is for a fashion statement or what not, there is the best one that you can find according to their size and even all the way to whether or not they are trained. It is recommended to not just go out and buy one without knowing what you are buying. Know which one is the best one for your dog. Ask your veterinarian or your dog groomer for their recommendation. It all depends on the size and breed of your dog.

You also may consider what type of leash that you use when purchasing your new collar. Are you training your dog or just showing him? Is he large and hard to control? These are things that you want to consider when purchasing your new collar. It all depends on your dog and your preference of course. Choose wisely, your dogs comfort will rely on it.
